Develop your interpreting skills in our fully-functioning conference interpreter suite
Our interpreter training suite features technology for training in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
There's a growing demand for high-quality translators and interpreters, and the suite is designed to improve your language skills faster, and to develop the professional interpreting and translating skills required to work at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, such as the United Nations.
The interpreter suite is a fully-functioning Conference Interpreter Suite, featuring hardware and training software by Televic Conference, including Lingua interpreter units and Plixus conference networking.
We're the first university in the world to offer this interpreting hardware technology and the suite enables students to take part in simulated conferences and meetings, where they learn professional interpreting skills as well as transferable skills such as the etiquette of professional meetings, conferences and public communication.
We can also replicate environments used for liaison or public-service interpreting in courtrooms, councils and police centres.
There are currently two interpreting modules based at the suite:
- Interpreting 1 – which focuses on bilateral skills
- Interpreting 2 – which introduces long consecutive and simultaneous skills
The modules are taught in Spanish, French and German and they are offered on degree courses including:
ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Language Interpretation Suite
Carmen: Interpreting is a module that we offer in all of our courses at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. As part of this module students get to take their language skills up to the next level. The interpreting suite actually offers an outstanding opportunity for our students to actually put their interpreting skills into practice in a very real context.
Toby: The qualities the student will need to succeed in this topic: Perseverance
MatÃas: Communication
Bethan: Preparation
MatÃas: Teamwork and passion about interpreting, interpretation world
Bethan: What I love about interpreting is how much it's challenging my language skills. I want to be able to facilitate people to integrate into a culture to make friends to be able to work to be able to socialise it's a really safe introduction to interpreting.
Toby: This module really pushes me to actually use my Spanish very spontaneously. It encourages the learning of new vocabulary and just to think a little bit outside. You have to think on your feet, it forces you to become good. It keeps you on top you know.
MatÃas: The interpreting module was one of the main reasons why I came to ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú. I think it really defines well the concept of communication.
Toby: You'll be pushed so much, you'll learn so much and at the end of the day you'll have fun
MatÃas: Just trust your command of the language and roll with it.
