Dr Martin Brock
Biography
Academic Experience:
Martin holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Sussex and a MSc (with Distinction) in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations from Warwick Business School, University of Warwick. Martin also holds a PhD in Business and Management from Warwick Business School, University of Warwick which was passed with no corrections. His research focused upon the impact of the apprenticeship levy on employers and training and interviews were conducted with Unionlearn and over one hundred levy-paying employers across a range of sectors. Following his masters, Martin was awarded a Warwick Business School Scholarship which included Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funding for the four-year Business and Management Doctoral Programme. Martin won multiple teaching awards at Warwick Business School having taught on many modules and successfully led both undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
In 2021, Martin joined the Faculty of Business and Law, 兔子先生 as a member of the Organisation Studies and Human Resource Management Subject Group following his appontment as Senior Teaching Fellow and Course Leader for Undergraduate HRM Programmes.
Entrepreneurial Experience:
Founder and Principal of a highly successful English language school for adults (2001-2015). The establishment of a school on a limited budget required total commitment to teaching excellence and the student experience of learning. Under Martin's leadership, the school achieved internationally recognised accredidation by the British Council and the Independent Schools Inspectorate as well as becoming a member of English UK.
The school was successful in all British Council and Independent Schools Inspectorate inspections (six British Council and two Independent Schools Inspectorate inspections) and Martin was the lead person for each inspection. The high standard of teaching and student experience that the school provided to students was recognised by the Independent Schools Inspectorate who stated it to 鈥渆xceed the expectations of the scheme鈥. Furthermore, the British Council also commended the pastoral care that the school offered to students. In addition to this, Martin led the process of acquiring and maintaining the status of a Highly Trusted Sponsor for Tier 4 visas which was a significant organisational achievement for a small school. The social mission of the school was to extend opportunity through the provision of quality and accredited teaching at an affordable price. The teaching team thrived upon this challenge and were proud to turn a vision in 2001 into a school which by 2015 had taught over three thousand students from more than ninety countries. During this time, he accumulated more than fifteen thousand hours of teaching experience.
Prior to this, Martin worked for various charities which included working for one year in a feeding programme in Oruro, Bolivia and two years living and working in a L'Arche community for people with and without learning disabilities as well as working with homeless people in London. Martin is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
