Biography

I am an Associate Professor in Politics at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

Previously, I was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2019–22), where I contributed to the group and the 2022 project.

I completed my PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London (2015). My doctoral research examined how EU free movement shapes young people's perceptions of citizenship, identity, and political participation, culminating in my monograph (Palgrave, 2020).

Research interests

My research approaches questions of citizenship and belonging from a political studies perspective, analysing how youth, migration and intersectional dynamics (including gender and race/ethnicity) shape political experiences in Europe and beyond. In parallel, I pursue a further line of research that develops and promotes more inclusive approaches to studying politics and to political science methods.

I am currently collaborating with external colleagues on two related projects. As part of the Reading Through project (2022–), alongside Dr Seoyoung Choi (Yonsei University, South Korea) and Dr Olivia Rutazibwa (LSE, UK), we seek to challenge and unlearn disciplinary mastery, Western-centrism and patriarchy by applying a feminist and decolonial lens to political science. With Professor Nicholas Allen (Royal Holloway, UK) and Dr Kenny Ie (University of British Columbia, Canada), we examine the interplay of gender and representation in political executives (2021–).

I also actively contribute to the wider academic and public community and currently serve on the following:

  1. Co-Editor of (PSR) – one of the flagship journals of the Political Studies Association (PSA)

  2. Chair of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR)

  3. Steering Committee member of the

  4. Co-Leader of the Transnational Politics and Society Research Group, Centre for European and International Studies Research (CEISR, ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú)

  5. Member of the , Yonsei University (South Korea)

  6. Board member of the (Belgium)

Teaching responsibilities

I contribute to a series of modules on politics (general, UK, and Europe) and research methods across undergraduate and postgraduate Politics and International Relations programmes, as well as to school- and university-wide PhD training initiatives.

I am currently coordinating the following modules:

1. Bending the Truth a Little? Researching Politics and International Relations (Year 2 core module for Politics, IR, IRP and Development Studies);

2. Post-Brexit Politics (Year 3 core module in Politics);

3. PhD Seminar Series (Core, PGRS, School-wide).
