Over the summer, the Graduate School Team has been busy collaborating with colleagues across the University to plan the Graduate School Development Programme (GSDP) for the 2024/25 academic year. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our colleagues who contribute to the development and delivery of these workshops for our postgraduate research (PGR) community.

We’re thrilled to announce several new sessions that have been added in response to your feedback and emerging trends within research and academia. These sessions, led by academic and professional services tutors, are designed to support you in navigating your research journey, and include:

• Using Artificial Intelligence for Research (for non-AI/Data Science specialists)
• Open Research
• The Research Excellence Framework for beginners
• Philosophy and Qualitative Research
• Designing Longitudinal Research Studies with Human Participants
• Mentoring Circles
• Being a confident postgraduate researcher

We are also in the final stages of organising a new workshop with the Student Wellbeing Service Team, Strategies for Challenging Research, which will be available to book later this year.

For our part-time and distance learners, the Professional and Distance Learning Online Community (PaDLOC) programme has an increased range of courses for you to choose from. You can find the 24/25 schedule on the page in Moodle.

We have also published the dates for the GProf Teacher Training Course. Visit the site where you will find the application form and links to book (via Skills Forge).

In a slight change to our processes this year, we will now be sending out the link for our online workshops one working day before the event, to make it easier for you to find in your inbox. For in-person workshops, details of the workshop location will be in the reminder email sent to you from Skills Forge. These emails will be sent to your @myport email account, so make sure you check this regularly, or you can send and receive your @myport emails from another mail client.

We encourage you to take some time to discuss and plan your training needs with your First Supervisor or Supervisory Team.
