An Athena Swan conference, a staff networking event and a bra giveaway are among the events happening at the University this year to mark International Women’s Day.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme asks us to #EmbraceEquity and understand the differences between equality and equity.

Events this week include:


  • Tuesday 7 March, 9.30am - 1.30pm, Park Building
    A morning conference on advancing gender equity at the ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú, including workshops on recruitment, promotion and allyship.

  • Wednesday 8 March, 10.00am - 4.00pm, Spinnaker Building
    Pick up and try on a free bra or sports bra. Our expert bra fitters will be on hand to provide you with the tools to find your perfect fit.
  • Women's Staff Network - Meet and Greet
    Wednesday 8 March, 1.00pm - 3.00pm, 5th floor University Learning Centre
    An informal networking event for the Women’s Staff Network at the University, which has recently re-launched.
  • Public lecture - The kitchen niche: Gertrude Bray and the heart of the home
    Wednesday 8 March, 6.00pm - 8.00pm, Park Building
    This lecture by Professor Deborah Sugg-Ryan explores the work of Leeds architect Gertrude Bray in redesigning kitchen spaces and seeks to restore her to her rightful place in history.

From careers to breast health: schoolgirls to attend International Women’s Day event

Around 60 schoolgirls from Hampshire will attend an event on International Women’s Day to hear from inspirational women and learn about breast health.

The 11 to 13-year-olds will spend the day at ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú Football Club’s home stadium, Fratton Park. They’ll get to meet women working in male-dominated industries, including sport, construction and the emergency services.
