The project explores 250 years of dynamic, fundamental change in the relationship between individuals and authority (c.1450-c.1700). We examine the ways in which emotion, language, behaviour, performance, and writing disrupted and reshaped dominant modes of thought, governance and religious belief. Examining disruption to early modern State, Church and societal authorities also provides insight into the ways people see their position and rights within social and political structures today.
