This open day experience will look at culture and war and peace movements. You will directly engage with primary sources that can help us explain and understand how people engaged with issues of patriotism and with social movements that engaged with peace. In particular you will examine music and lyrics as a primary source and what this says about society turning against the Vietnam Conflict in the late 1960s. In this manner you will appreciate a range of cultural sources and how to apply this to historical timelines which may tell us more about a certain time period than more traditional sources, such as newspapers and official documents. Was the 1960s as radical and revolutionary as we are taught? Or does the popular culture of music and film tell us differently?
