To kick off this year's Seminar Series we will be joined this month by our very own Mystery Beck. Based on the title and abstract (below) I think you'll all agree that this promises to be both topical and thought-provoking.

Research Paper Title: Bridging AI and Law: Developing Critical Information Literacy in Legal Curricula

Abstract: This paper examines the pedagogical implications of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for legal education, focusing on how emerging technologies are reshaping students’ research and referencing practices. Drawing on longitudinal data and findings from an “AI and Legal Research” workshop conducted at a UK university, the study identifies shifting patterns in student engagement, including declining use of traditional referencing resources and increased dependence on GenAI tools such as ChatGPT. While students recognise AI’s potential to enhance efficiency and idea generation, they also demonstrate awareness of its limitations in producing accurate and legally rigorous work. The paper argues for a balanced approach that integrates GenAI literacy into the curriculum while maintaining academic integrity and critical legal reasoning. As higher education navigates what may be described as a “Wild West” phase of AI, marked by rapid innovation and limited oversight, collaboration between academics and librarians is essential to foster ethical, critical, and informed engagement.

And ... as it is being held at "11’s", refreshments (i.e. tea & biscuits) will be provided.
