Overview

Our four-year BSc (Hons) Project Management Degree Apprenticeship is ideal for project professionals who want to advance their career. Our up-to-date and practical course is delivered by a specialised teaching team and is accredited by the Association for Project Management (APM) — the only chartered membership organisation for the project profession in the world. 

Through your degree study, you’ll develop advanced knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, operations, quality management, supply chains, risk and many other subjects. You’ll be able to put this knowledge to use in the workplace straight away.

Alongside your academic study, you will also undertake the APM Project Management Qualification. This widely recognised professional qualification is a great way to enhance your CV and demonstrate your knowledge of the main elements of project management. 

The End-point Assessment (EPA) in your final year allows you to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you have gained throughout the degree apprenticeship in both the classroom and the workplace.

Upon successful completion, you'll be awarded a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree (BSc (Hons)); the APM Project Management Qualification (IPMA Level D); and a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship.

Typical offers

  • UCAS points - 112-120 points from 3 A levels, or equivalent. Applicants with relevant work experience will also be considered (calculate your UCAS points)
  • All applicants to the Degree Apprenticeship courses must have an acceptable Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics. Acceptable qualifications include GCSE with grade C/4 or above and Functional Skills with Pass - please note that we are not able to accept all kinds of Level 2 qualifications, so if you are unsure whether you have a suitable qualification please get in touch. If you do not have an acceptable qualification you will be required to take an additional assessment during the application process

Selection process

All applicants will be required to complete a Skills Gap Analysis before completing an application form.

All applicants will be invited to attend an academic interview and may be asked to submit a portfolio of work or undertake additional assessment.

We look at more than just your grades

While we consider your grades when making an offer, we also carefully look at your circumstances and other factors to assess your potential. These include whether you live and work in the region and your personal and family circumstances which we assess using established data.

You and your employer

When you begin studying for your degree apprenticeship:

  • You need to be 18 or over
  • You should be able to satisfy government requirements on residency: 
    • you must be a citizen or have the right to live in the UK/EEA
    • you must have been a resident in the UK/EEA (not the Channel Islands or Isle of Man) for a minimum of 3 years
    • you must not need a Student Route visa, and must not have been on a Student Route visa within the past 3 years
  • You need to have the right to work in the UK, and to spend at least 50% of your working hours in England
  • Your job should meet the requirements of the apprenticeship standard relevant to this degree – we can advise you and your employer on this
  • Your employer needs to have registered an apprentice service account – we can help your employer with this if needed

Each module on this course is worth a certain number of credits. You'll study modules worth 360 credits.

What you'll study

Explore project management methodologies, cycles and structures used across sectors. 

This module prepares you to seamlessly lead project teams from vision to implementation. Using practical tools, you'll scope initiatives, model costs and refine schedules to transform strategy into reality. 

By balancing constraints like time, resources and technology, you'll finish this module confident in handling project turbulence.

With an overview across programmes and portfolios, you’ll assess how smart investments secure short and long-term gains. 

You'll build robust plans with practical applications, developing your ability to  frame business cases and ensure market viability. You'll also understand stakeholder dynamics that can catalyse or constrain impact. 

This module provides the commercial intelligence you need for your projects to deliver.

This module develops the academic, personal and professional skills you'll need to develop as a project manager.

Apprentices will evaluate the commercial aspects of strategic sourcing. Audit and assurance processes will enable apprentices to understand the role of governance.

Examine the processes and partnerships that enable sustainable value creation across borders. 

By evaluating real market scenarios, you'll analyse how ethical, innovative choices enhance productivity, resilience and social impacts — even as technology transforms. 

You'll finish this module with the insight and influence to champion working models where communities and environments can flourish alongside commercial success.

You'll develop advanced people skills to unite diverse groups, motivate top performance and uphold ethics amid complexity. Through interactive sessions, you'll learn to apply behavioural science and critical reflection and gain heightened emotional intelligence. 

You'll diagnose tension points from culture clashes to inequality in teams, preparing you to resolve issue with sensitivity. This module provides the versatility to align teams to objectives across sectors and scenarios.

By applying your knowledge to academic concepts and workplace cases, you’ll assess the reporting methodologies and data points that guide project course correction.

You'll complete stakeholder analysis activities and learn to measure the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement so you know when to escalate situations. 

This experience develops the critical skills to proactively manage stakeholder relationships and dynamics during a project.

You'll re-evaluate the purpose of enterprises, assessing stakeholder impacts that span supply chains and communities. With leading frameworks from CSR to sustainability, you'll diagnose how to uphold integrity across operations. You'll use work-based projects to implement specialist project management methodologies, and demonstrate your aptitude by critiquing data credibility across sources. 

Through guided reflection, you'll develop your strategic perspective and career planning. This module refines the integrity, curiosity and resilience you need to handle multifaceted challenges in the workplace while keeping stakeholders' trust through transitions.

Prepare to positively disrupt industries by building more dynamic, resilient and responsible organisations. You'll develop your strategic skills and learn to explore growth opportunities as you consider your competitive advantage. By evaluating internal capabilities alongside external forces, you'll assess change options from restructuring to venturing, and finish this module ready to make strategic decisions that boost economic and social outcomes.

The module will ensure students have completed all necessary components to pass Gateway.

In accordance with APM requirements, students will work independently to develop and deliver an agreed work-based project to the employing organisation, as well as the submission of the Project Report to demonstrate achievement of the requisite KSBs.

In addition, building on the work completed through the course of study, students will be encouraged to reflect upon the KSBs, and complete the e-portfolio in preparation for the EP presentation and interview.

We use the best and most current research and professional practice alongside feedback from our students to make sure course content is relevant to your future career or further studies.

Therefore, some course content may change over time to reflect changes in the discipline or industry. If a module doesn't run, we'll let you know as soon as possible and help you choose an alternative module.

How you'll spend your time

You'll typically go to the University campus one day a week for around 30 weeks every year to attend lectures, seminars and workshops. On the weeks you don't attend University, you'll spend 20% of your time either studying or training away from your normal workplace.

You’ll need the full support of your current employer to study for one day a week — otherwise you could apply to work for an employer which is seeking to recruit degree apprentices.

How you're assessed

Your degree modules will be assessed through multiple methods, which may include:

  • individual and group work
  • presentations and academic posters
  • reports and essays

You’ll be able to test your skills and knowledge informally before you do the academic assessments that count towards your final mark.

The APM Project Management Qualification is assessed by an examination.

Course costs and funding

Tuition fees

The payment of this course fee is covered by the Government, and in some cases, your employer. This means there's no cost to you as the degree apprentice. Total tuition fees are £22,000 paid over 3 years.

These course-related costs aren’t included in the tuition fees. So you’ll need to budget for them when you plan your spending.

Our accommodation section shows your accommodation options and highlights how much it costs to live in ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉú.

You’ll study up to 6 module a year. You may have to read several recommended books or textbooks for each modules.

You can borrow most of these from the Library. If you buy these, they may cost up to £60 each.

We recommend that you budget £75 a year for photocopying, memory sticks, DVDs and CDs, printing charges, binding and specialist printing.

If your final year includes a major project, there could be cost for transport or accommodation related to your research activities. The amount will depend on the project you choose.
