Annual Tuition Fees
Tuition fees are charged annually for each year of study, including placement years/study abroad and may be subject to annual increase.
How tuition fees are calculated
Full-time fees are set using an annual rate. Part-time courses charge credit fees based on the standard study intensity of the course pro-rata to 100% of the full-time equivalent fee. Tuition fees are either set by external or internal authorities as follows:
UK undergraduate students
The Office for Students sets the maximum tuition fee chargeable to full-time and part-time UK undergraduate students. We apply the same fee rates to full-time and part-time Channel Islands and Isle of Man undergraduate students. These fees will increase annually subject to setting by the central government.
UK postgraduate taught students
Postgraduate taught full-time and part-time students’ fees are set by the University. UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man fees are subject to annual increases. Increases for continuing students’ fees are based on the most current ‘RPI-X percentage change over 12 months’ rate available when setting the fees.
UK postgraduate research students
The Research Councils UK sets the maximum studentship fee for full-time UK postgraduate research students. The University applies the same fee to full-time Channel Islands and Isle of Man postgraduate research students. These fees increase annually in line with the GDP deflator.
Postgraduate Research part-time students’ fees are set internally. UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man fees are subject to annual increases. Increases for continuing students’ fees are based on the most current ‘RPI-X percentage change over 12 months’ rate available when setting the fees.
International and EU students
Undergraduate and postgraduate, full-time and part-time International and EU students’ fees are set internally. The tuition fee is subject to annual increase. Increases for future years will be around 5-6%.
Distance learning
Distance learning courses charge a ‘global’ fee. This means one fee is set and does not vary according to students’ fee status, i.e. UK, EU, International, Channel Islands and Isle of Man fees. These fees are subject to annual increases. Increases for continuing students’ fees are based on the most current ‘RPI-X percentage change over 12 month’ rate available when setting the fees.
When tuition fees are charged
Tuition fees are charged after you have registered/re-registered onto your course and the course start date has been reached. Registration is an annual requirement. Tuition fees are required to be paid or settled prior to the course start date, or on the due date of the tuition fee invoice. Tuition fees are ‘paid’ when the annual amount is paid in full.
Tuition fees are ‘settled’ when the Student Loans Company confirm the award, or a sponsor agrees to pay the fee by submitting a sponsor form (RE2), or when you set up a Direct Debit or recurring card payment mandate to pay your fees. If you're unable to pay fees, this may result in withdrawal of services. For more details view our .
